Greys` Marine Fishing Processing Workers Embark On Strike

About 60 members of the Food and Allied Workers` Union (FAWU), employed by Grey`s Marine, a fishing processing plant situated in Diep River in Cape Town, embarked on a legal protected strike as of 07h00 this morning in pursuit of legitimate demands.
The union, on behalf of its members demand the following:
Wages
- Immediate adjustment of wages such as R 15.40 per hour to R 20 per hour;
- Wages of those employees who earns R 20 per hour to increase with 7 percent across the board;
- The above to be backdated to 1 July 2018;
Working conditions
- Providend fund, medical aid; funeral plan;
- Transport to and from home;
- Shower facilities after duty;
The union remains open to further discussions and hopes the employer give in to the lawful demands of workers who provide their labour under environmentally challenging circumstances i.e. freezing facilities and are truly deserving of decent wages and better working conditions.
