Roodepoort Superspar Workers Suspend Strike

3 June 2018

About 55 out of the 65 workers employed by the Superspar in Roodepoort have embarked on legal strike action on 30 May 2018 in pursuit of higher wages and better working conditions. The striking workers have been demonstrating outside the store and are all members of FAWU. The union demands the following:

  • FAWU funeral scheme;
  • A providend fund
  • Long service award
  • A 9% wage increase

The organiser, cde Puseletso Mpitso says that the company has not even bothered to put anything on the table and with some of these workers having been in their employ for more than 20 years.! The strike has been suspended on the 3rd June 2018.
