Message Of Support To The Members of HBLM At AB Inbev, Sonepat in India

The Food and Allied Workers` Union (F.A.W.U.) in South Africa pledges its full support and solidarity to the leaders and members of the Haryana Breweries Limited Mazdoor (HBLM) union against the onslaught and bullying tactics of corporate giant AB Inbev at the Sonepat plant in India. We urge the company to allow the union to represent workers without fear or favour during bargaining processes as it is their constitutional right to do so.

FAWU urges AB InBev Sonepat to desist from its current practices of union bashing and proceed with the recognition and collective bargaining in good faith with the HBLM in question, represent The company should allow the union and its members to demonstrate peacefully to voice their frustrations and anger with the company`s aggressive,anti-union actions. ABinBev Sonepat should not feel threatened by the existence and the influence of the trade union. Unions have the lawful right to protect workers and no amount of intimidation can convince it to do otherwise. They are integral part of the labour force all over the world and its power is undeniable. In South Africa, we ourselves have fought long and hard for organisational rights in order to protect employees in the work place against unfair discrimination and victimisation. History clearly shows what can happen if workers rights` are undermined by bosses. It is imperative that companies understand that an amicable solution to a labour dispute can only be found through mutual respect by the parties involved during collective bargaining processes.

We want the leaders and members of HBLM to know that here in South Africa we will do anything in our power to support the workers and their union from victimisation from the likes of ABInbev and others. We will never allow companies to subject workers to undesirable working conditions or behaviour to the extent visible in this case.

Away with Union Bashing!!! Forward with the Workers` Struggle! Aluta Continua!

Greetings from the leaders and members of Food and Allied Workers Union, South Africa.
