FAWU supports SAFTU March against New Labour Bills

The Food and Allied Workers` Union will be participating in the march spearheaded by our mother body, the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) to Parliament on Thursday, 12 April 2018 in protest against the privatisation of water e.g. the high water tariffs, the VAT hike and the fuel levy as well as the amendments in Labour Bills.

Poor workers are already suffering enough by just acquiring their basic needs and these increases will only burden the poor more. We want an end to socio-economic inequality and want the labour law amendments to be scrapped. These will only reverse the hard-earned gains and sacrifices made by workers over the years. These poorly constructed labour amendments will only undermine workers` democratic rights and take away workers` power to strike.

Scrap the 2018/2019 City of Cape Town Budget! An increase in water and sanitation tariffs will harm the poor who already spend more than half of their income on food and transport. We demand a just and equitable water plan that supplies clean water to all and which prevents water from simply becoming another commodity.

The hikes in tariffs and new labour law amendments are anti- worker and anti-poor.

Phantsi with higher tariffs of water and fuel! Down with the VAT hike!!! Down with the Labour Amendments, Down!!!
