Coca Cola Fortune Workers Reach Settlement

The national strike by about 1800 FAWU bargaining unit members in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, parts of Mpumalanga and ended by the second week of November 2017 when the two parties managed to reach a wage agreement after a month long strike. Workers in the bargaining unit went on a legal strike over the company`s refusal to close wage gaps and a wage increase on condition of the union`s acceptance of a so-called logistics optimisation process". These wage gaps existed for several years and the company were supposed to close it as per the 2014 collective agreement between the parties but this has not happened which frustrated workers.

Most workers have returned back to work and have apparently accepted a 7% wage increase for all workers across the board to be implemented retrospectively from the 1st of October 2017. A 7% service allowance will be included in the basic salary of workers. The wage gap issue has been referred to the Labour Court according to the Collective agreement.
