FAWU participates in launch of new federation SAFTU

21 April 2017

254 FAWU delegates will participate in the historical launch of the new independent federation known as the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) convened by cde Zwelinzima Vavi from 21-24 April 2017 at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg, Johannesburg.

24 Unions including FAWU and NUMSA (National Union of Mineworkers South Africa) are attending the founding Congress. After the expulsion of NUMSA and cde Vavi from COSATU, FAWU members have taken a decision at their National Conference 2017 to split from COSATU.

Today, after months of intense negotiating and discussions it has culminated into the launch of the new federation who already has a remarkable figure of 700 000 workers members who represents all sectors in South Africa.
