FAWU marches to EU Embassy to address Job Crisis
1 February 2017
The Food and Allied Workers` Union will be intensifying its protest action against the unfair ` dumping` of cheap imported chicken in our country by European Union states by staging a march to the EU Embassy in Pretoria today.
Assembly point: Cnr. Nelson Mandela 7 George Storrar Drive, Pretoria
Time; 11h00 for 11h30
Enroute: European Embassy, 27 George Storrar Drive
Marchers will include affected workers and representatives from the poultry industry. FAWU and industry stakeholders seek immediate intervention from these EU states to address the current crisis facing the industry.
FAWU also demands that the Department of Trade and Industry would enforce more protectionist measures to protect the local poultry sector against unfair trade deals and to enhance the competitiveness of the industry as well as guarantee job security in light of the rising unemployment figure in the country.
