FAWU supports calls for Head of the NPA, Shaun Abrahams to resign

FAWU is totally convinced that Shaun Abrahams, the Director of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) must resign with immediate effect. With the announcement today that the frivolous charges against the Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan and Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashule have been dropped, the attitude and utterances of the Head of the NPA during todayís press conference was simply another display of Shaun Abrahamís inability to hold a position of this stature. Abrahams arrogantly displayed his incompetence and lack of moral conduct to hold the position as Director of the NPA by his refusal to accept responsibility for wrongly charging the Minister of Finance and the other accused.

His stubborn refusal to apologise for the harm caused to Minister Gordhan and his co- accused and their families as well as the South African economy further underlines his lack of understanding that an institution such as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) should at all times uphold ethical and responsible conduct. As Director of Prosecutions, he also caused serious harm to the reputation of the NPA by pursuing a case against the Minister with no legal basis. He cannot possibly be fit to hold a position of this nature if he dares to claim that he was unaware of this high-profile case involving the Minister of Finance.
