Workers in Melbourne march in support of Carlton United/SABMiller brewery workers
13 September 2016
Thousands of union members and supporters marched through the center of Melbourne, Australia on September 8 in support of union members at Carlton United Breweries (owned by SABMiller) , whose employment conditions came under brutal attack when they were told their pay would be cut by 65% under the terms of a new sub-contracting arrangement. The unions rejected the company`s diktat and have maintained round-the-clock protests at the plant.
The IUF Executive Committee, which met in Geneva September 7-8, sent a message of solidarity and support to the marchers and their unions.
The Food and Allied Workers` Union [FAWU] from South Africa, also representing some thousands of members employed by SABMiller, wholeheartedly supports the workers in Melbourne Australia in their protest against their wages being cut. As FAWU, we stand united behind these workers in their plight for a decent wage and improved living conditions for their families. A cut in wages will never be tolerated by our members and should not be tolerated by these workers.
Forward Workers!!! Upward With Wages. Solidarity For Ever! Amandla!
